What is an appropriate age to start lessons?

​Each student varies, 3 years old may be too young for some, but the lesson can still be successful with the help of a parent. I typically suggest above 5 years old, but that also comes with their willingness to practice, try new things, ability to find joy in music! 

How long are Lessons?

Lessons are 45 minutes.​

What are The Dinner Table Lessons Like?
 

The lessons start with a warmup that typically helps build skill or relates to the lesson material. Next we'll go over what the student practiced throughout the week. Then we'll learn new material out of the lesson book. Lastly we'll work on the song we're learning outside of the book.

 

What Types of performance opportunities are there?

 

The Dinner Table hosts two recitals a year in a University Heights Center.

 

How long have you (Maddie) been teaching?

 

6 years. Started at Guitar Center in Minnesota, moved to Washington and continued teaching until I opened The Dinner Table in 2023.

 

How do you keep students engaged?

Each lesson is tailored to meet the individuals students goals. In the lesson we work on materials beneficial to their learning journey including songs they hand select along with structured lesson materials. Some students want to play chords, others want to read music, some learn best by ear and others learn best from watching; everyone is different.
